Recognizing that the quality of our most recent product release was a problem, we knew that the next release had to be much better. We chose to implement a handful of improvements that dramatically changed the organization and gave us stellar results. Our poor product quality was directly addressed with an organization-wide implementation of peer reviews. Introducing peer reviews and using them broadly in the project contributed significantly to the dramatic increase in the measured quality of our product.

An implicit responsibility of managers is to ensure the high quality of work performed by their team. In high maturity organizations, managers have direct visibility to the effectiveness of work process and quality of work products - they might even be required to report this information to their management or a centralized quality department. This article describes some common used methods for ensuring high quality of project artifacts and deliverables, and advocates the adoption of Peer Reviews as an effective quality assurance technique.
